A FREE SPACE
A Free Space is an unconventional spatial concept that addresses the needs of people from different socio-cultural or religious backgrounds through research and the design of a temporary space.
It serves as an alternative to traditional places of worship, retreat or exchange. It is a space with the potential for, but not limited to, religious expression - a place for mourning, contemplation and recreation. It serves as an impartial spatial entity, accessible to all. It embodies tranquillity, reflection, retreat as well as the exchange of perspectives and experiences with others, encouraging encounters on an equal footing to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge, the breaking of rigid thought patterns and the learning of acceptance.
A Free Space observes these needs through research and offers concrete and tangible spatial possibilities by channeling three overarching tendencies: being alone, anonymous encounters between two people, and open engagement in a group setting. The intention of this space is not to impose, but to create opportunities through its characteristics, such as form, spatial divisions, distances and directions. It is envisioned as a place where individuals can reclaim their humanity and feel free.
